Simple but rugged core barrels popular for site investigation, geotechnical coring. The tubes are thicker than the equivalent metric core barrels (T2 and T6 series) and thus less prone to damage when handling on site. However, the thicker cutting face of the core bits results in a relatively slower rate of penetration.
The WF series corebarrels are available in for hole diameters H, P, S and U. The 412F Airflush Core Barrel cuts a hole size of 107.2 mm
These core barrels are used in conjunction with face-discharge core bits, which minimize core erosion in soft, unconsolidated formations.
WF series barrels can be used with water or mud flush. The 412F core barrel is specially designed for air flush, having a relatively large annulus between the inner and outer tube. The 412F is widely used for open-cast coal exploration and for general site investigation work when water flush is not permitted.
The Inner Tube and Outer Tube are manufactured from cold drawn steel tube with a very high tensile strength and straightness. The Head Assembly is manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel to ensure long life.
As an option WF and 412F core barrels can be used with clear plastic Coreliner tubes to form an inner, triple tube. This greatly facilitates core handling and improves presentation. When Coreliner tubes are used an undersized bit and corelifter are required.
