Mechanical Borehole Packers

These packers are designed to form a tight seal at the top of a borehole, for example, when grouting or carrying out water tests in fissured rocks.

The packer operates simply by turning a handle attached to a top nut, and so compressing a one or several rubber glands between two steel plates. The rubber should be pre-tensioned to be just smaller than the borehole diameter, and finally tightened once the packer is in position. Because the packers do not expand very much they are to be used as a seal inside casing or a smooth borehole.

The cenral stem is hollow and allows water or grout to be pumped through the packer into the borehole, and enables the packer to be used for various borehole monitoring functions. The stem can be fitted with a shut-off valve when required

These packers can be supplied in a range of diameters and pressure ratings to customer requirements.
