Shelby tube samplers

Thin-walled open-tube samplers are designed for taking samples in soft and firm cohesive soils. These samplers have a much lower area ratio (approximately 10%) than U100 samplers and therefore give less disturbed samples. However, some disturbance is caused due to friction of the sample on the inside of the sample tube.

The drive head is manufactured with a drill rod box connection to customer requirements and has an air-relief port and a simple arrangement for fixing the sample tubes with 3 grub screws.
Sample tubes are available in cold-drawn seamless carbon steel and in stainless steel in a variety of diameters and lengths. When specifying the length of the tube please allow an extra 10 cm for fixing the tube to the sampler head. The cutting edge has a 30 degree chamfer.

CDS is cold drawn seamless carbon steel. SS is stainless steel grade 304. Please note that due to the nature of these tubes, the cutting edge is thin and fragile and is likely to distort after some period of normal use. A refurbishment service is offered on used tubes.
