PDC Drill Bits

A wide range of full-hole drill bits with polycrystalline diamond cutters (PDC) are available for numerous applications in mining, civil engineering and the oil and gas industries. These span between small bits 2″ diameter used in mines for drilling holes for roof-bolts to larger diameter bits used for horizontal drilling.

Description

A wide range of full-hole drill bits with polycrystalline diamond cutters (PDC) are available for numerous applications in mining, civil engineering and the oil and gas industries. These span between small bits 2″ diameter used in mines for drilling holes for roof-bolts to larger diameter bits used for horizontal drilling.

All these bits have a full tungsten carbide matrix crown imparting a much superior wear resistance than equivalent steel-headeds bits. PDC drill bits easily beat the performance of conventional roller cone bits, in some cases achieving 10-20 times bit life and 2-3 times the rate of penetration.

Specially developed PDC cutters are incorporated into the bits which may have either a flat or convex surface. The convex cutters absorb impact better than flat-faced cutters and gicve superior performance in hard formations. Each PDC insert has a built-in side and back rake allowing them to cut cleanly whilst using less torque.

PDC drill bits rapidly produce a large volume of cuttings, and drilllers need to ensure that flush volumes are high enough to keep the bit face really clean and cool.

Because bit design is greatly dependent on the particular application, we recommend that potential customers contact us for special technical advice when selecting PDC bits.
