I have been drilling window sample boreholes for 15 years now and have operated most of the Window Sampling Rigs on the market. In 2009 we settled on the Archway Heavy Duty Rigs and have not looked back.
As we are a railway based SI company and subject to heavy fines if our equipment breaks down and delays trains we need to ensure that all our equipment is well made and reliable and we have been very happy with the Competitor Darts, in fact we now have 4. We also chose the version with expanding tracks as it is more stable when tracking along unstable ground, it does mean the rig is quite heavy but we have found it is worth the sacrifice.
We have also found that the ability to jack the drill string out is a great advantage and dramatically reduces the time taken to complete each borehole. Its worth mentioning that all drilling rigs take a beating on a day to day basis and breakages are inevitable, in these instances we have found the team at Archways office to be fantastic with parts shipped overnight to the crews. I can thoroughly recommend any one of the Dart models to anyone entering the industry, just so long as they are not in competition with me! Chris Pow MD, Topdrill Ltd
